      FREDERIC BOISSONNAS (1858-1946)

      Born June 18, 1858 in Geneva; died on October 17, 1946 in this same city, is a Swiss photographer.

      He comes from a family of Geneva artists. In 1887, he was a member of the Geneva Society of Photography and obtained a silver medal at the Toulouse photography exhibition. Between 1907 and 1919, he made several trips to Greece, including that of 1913 with Daniel Baud-Bovy, with whom he accomplished the first known ascent of Mount Olympus. In 1919 the publishing house "Boissonnas SA" was founded, and the same year he left for Greece accompanied by his son Edmond-Édouard Boissonnas.
